Prep students participating in transition activities at St Columba’s Primary School Elwood, preparing for a confident start to school

Prep Transition Program

Starting school is a significant milestone for children and families. At St Columba’s, we take a thoughtful and supportive approach to ensure every child feels confident, connected and ready for their first day of Prep.

Our transition program unfolds across the year, giving children multiple opportunities to become familiar with the school environment, build relationships with teachers and peers, and develop a strong sense of belonging.

Come & Play

Our Come and Play sessions are a relaxed and welcoming introduction to school life.

Children are invited to explore our learning spaces, engage in hands-on activities and begin forming connections with peers and staff in a calm, supportive setting.

These sessions are designed to build confidence and excitement, helping children feel comfortable and familiar with their new surroundings.

Formal Prep Transition

Later in the year, children will take part in 3 formal classroom transition sessions with their 2027 Prep teacher.

These sessions are an important step in preparing for the school year ahead, allowing children to experience a typical classroom environment, build relationships with their teacher and begin establishing routines.

We strongly encourage all children to attend, as this helps ensure a smooth and successful start to their learning journey.
