Eco Warriors explore the environment

Last week the 3/4s went to explore the different habitats and creatures found in and around the canal and beach.

First we explored the birds in the Elwood canal; some birds were swimming in the water and we found out that one part of the canal is made up of seawater and fresh water.

We saw a Grey Egret which only hangs around during the colder months.

Next we drew what we think Point Ormond looked like and after the settlers people came and the after. As we were drawing Gio (from the Eco Centre) came up and showed us a Banjo Shark that he found! We all agreed that it looked like a stingray, but we knew it wasn't.

Then we explored sea grass and some creatures found within it. We saw Pipe Fish, Starfish, Sea Centipede, Glass Shrimp and much more!

As we walked to the Elwood beach to go nurdle finding, we saw dolphins swimming in the bay! When we searched for nurdles, we found 12 of them! Nurdles are bad for the environment because they are tiny plastic cylindrical pellets. Lastly, we screened the beach for any rubbish and were blown away by how much we found in just 15 minutes.

We had the best time and would like to thank Sharron and Gio from the Eco Centre for teaching us and Jill Sokol from Love Our Street 3184 for volunteering her time with us.
