MP applause for our excellent eco efforts

Posted on 15 July 2019
St Columba's eco achievements were applauded last month by our state and federal local members.

According to Hansard (Wednesday 19 June), the Member for Brighton, James Newbury MP, very kindly said in Parliament:

St Columba's Catholic Primary School is a special school in my community. The school, ably led by Daniella Maddalena, was a finalist in the ResourceSmart School of the Year Awards. In 2018 the local foreshore became the classroom for students as they transformed their learning process and learned about Indigenous history, scientific knowledge and improving the Port Phillip environment. I congratulate the school on their initiative and leadership.

The Federal Member for Macnamara, Josh Burns MP, sent a wonderful letter to the 3/4 Eco Warriors to congratulate them on their efforts at the Awards ceremony:

Dear St Columba's Grade 3 and 4 Eco Warriors,

Congratulations on your outstanding work this term.

I'm so sorry I couldn't be there today to see your expo and celebrate your great work with you.

I'm in Canberra at Parliament House but, secretly, I wish I was there with you today.

Protecting our precious bay, our local Elster Creek and the health of our waterways is the responsibility of each of us.

Our Elster Creek which flows through Elwood and Elsternwick Park needs to be looked after and cleaned up, and I really hope that together we can make that happen.

Our planet needs a lot more care from all of us at the moment, and I'm so proud to know that you are part of a new generation that cares about our precious natural world.

Congratulations again and I look forward to visiting you all soon.

Kind regards,

Josh Burns MP
Federal Member for Macnamara

We were very excited to read the letter and mention in Parliament and thank both MPs for their kind words and support.
