Drum roll... St Columba's has been nominated as a School of the Year finalist in the 2019 ResourceSmart School Awards!
The Awards recognise and reward the outstanding sustainability efforts of Victorian primary and secondary schools that contribute to a better place.
Winners are being announced on the 13th June at a ceremony being held at the MCG. Three of our sustainability representatives from Grades 4, 5 and 6 will be attending on the school's behalf.
Since 2014, our school has been hard at work growing and embedding its commitment to sustainability in the curriculum, on campus and in the community, and was last year awarded 5 Stars by the Victorian Government.
A key focus of this work has been on Port Phillip Bay, with the school working to increase student and community awareness of the environmental health and value of the Bay - encouraging students and the community to care for the Bay and connect everyday decisions to Bay health. Our STEAM Clean the Bay project which has driven this work is generously funded with the support of the Victorian Government.
St Columba's started its parent Green Team and 3/4 Eco Warriors group in 2014 and, with the generous support of the Port Phillip EcoCentre, has worked incredibly hard to create and embed sustainable practices, infrastructure, integrated learning and action on climate change.
We are incredibly excited to have had our sustainability work recognised in this way, are looking forward to learning and sharing our work on the 13th June and wish all of the finalists luck at the awards ceremony.
