Nature Play Cubby House

At St Columba's we have loved enjoying our nature play cubby house when we are at school. It has had a makeover and now includes a nature art station where students can look through the windows to draw the beautiful nature surrounding it. We have a cozy corner to enjoy nature books and novels and a sensory wall to feel different recycled materials. Students have also enjoyed our bush kitchen to explore making things with natural materials.

Sustainable Art Projects

Our brilliant sustainable Art teacher Bec created some spectacular bee sculptures with some of our students. These sculptures help to provide insects and bugs with places to live as the backs of the cans of these funky sculptures are filled with sticks and leaves.

Sustainability at home during Remote Learning

Although our students are working from home, they are still doing their part to learn about Sustainability and look out for our environment. Every Friday, students complete a Sustainability activity. Some of these have included creating a habitat for native animals, making a pollution catcher, reading all about Bees and going on a Wildlife Walk.

Sustainable Schools Festival 2021

On Thursday 9th September, all the 5/6's and Miss Young participated in the annual Sustainable Schools Virtual Festival. It was a fantastic day of listening to inspiring young speakers, encountering incredible reptiles and watching Primary schools from across Victoria present about Sustainability at their schools and how they are working with their local community to look after our environment.

Elster Creek Wildlife Walk

St Columba's Primary School and the EcoCentre have collaborated to create the attached guided walk from Elsternwick Park to the bay along the Elster Creek and Canal path. The walk is a fun, family-friendly activity to share over the school holidays. The walk introduces walkers to the natural history of the area and identifies some of the special fauna species that live within it, with a particular focus on species that use trees as a habitat.

St Columba's awarded a 2021 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant

St Columba's has been buzzing with excitement after being notified that we've been awarded a 2021 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant for our project: Pollen, plants and paintbrushes.
