The School Garden

The St Columba's community has been working hard to transform the campus gardens into nurturing green spaces for learning and enjoyment. 

The school places sustainability and care for the environment at its core and the campus gardens offer students and the school community opportunities to:

• improve habitat for native wildlife;
• learn about and promote the local plant species which feed and shelter native wildlife;
• learn about the traditional names for, and stories about, native wildlife;
• grow culinary herbs, fruits and vegetables in the new kitchen garden and learn growing and cooking skills;
• take inspiration from the plants and local wildlife in interactive art projects;
• relax and unwind (with a new nature play studio and retreat being developed in 2021) and
• improve sustainability through stormwater management initiatives such as the raingarden and stormwater harvesting for irrigation.

The school gratefully acknowledges the financial support for its garden projects provided by the Port Phillip Bay Fund, Communities Environment Program, Landcare Victoria, Victorian Schools Garden Program, Bunnings Warehouse Port Melbourne, Living Water Workbees and South East Water Community Grant Program.

The school appreciates the support and guidance provided by the staff at the Port Phillip EcoCentre.
