St Columba's Primary School in Elwood will be under the beauty spotlight on Thursday 21 April as Keep Victoria Beautifulâs (KVB) judge pays a visit to review the schools impressive sustainability efforts as part of its entry in the KVB Sustainable Cities Awards 2016.

"You may have noticed the new addition to our school gate - a shiny star! No we are not getting in early with our Christmas decorating - St Columba's received it from ResourceSmart Schools in recognition of our progress on our school's sustainability journey!

Loving our streets!

On Saturday 20th February some families from St Columba's participated in Love Our Street 3184. Love Our Street is an initiative to help keep our streets clean and tidy. We picked up rubbish and filled 25 bags of litter. It is amazing how much people litter. It was quite a blast!

Our 3/4 Eco-Warriors get to work

This year the 3/4 students will be our school's EcoWarriors.
What does this mean? It means we will be leaders in looking after the environment, teaching others how to care for our world and advertising the many events we can do to make a difference to our beautiful environment. Watch out for these events.
The first event - Love Our Streets 3184 - is on this Saturday at 9.30 - 10.30 starting at the corner of Normandy St and Glenhuntly Rd. We can't wait to see ...

St Columba's plants over 1,000 plants for the planet!

On Friday our Years 3-6 students ventured out into the stunning sunshine and down to Elwood foreshore to take part in Schools National Tree Day.
The students were guided by April and Karen from the Port Phillip Eco Centre together with Damien and members of the CityWide team as they got to work planting locally indigenous tubestock.
The aim was to plant 250 trees to encourage and support Point Ormond bird species. By the end of the session we had planted an impressive 1,000 trees!
